Monica Mezzadri

Head of Commercialization and Technology Division

Monica Mezzadri joined the European Space Agency (ESA) in September 2000 as a Contracts Officer for Earth Observation programmes. Over the past two decades, she has built a distinguished career in space procurement, progressively broadening her expertise across multiple strategic domains.

In 2004, Monica moved to support the Navigation Directorate, where she was the contracts officer responsible for satellite system, ground segment, hosting sites and operations procurements. She was later appointed as Head of Section in 2011, where she oversaw procurement implementation for the entire Directorate, including close collaboration with the European Commission and other international organisations.

Since 2018, Monica has headed the Telecommunications Contracts Section, where she has been instrumental in designing and executing procurement strategies for flagship initiatives such as Eagle-1Moonlight, and IRIS². She currently leads the Commercial and Technology Contracts Division, driving innovation and enabling strategic partnerships with industry across ESA’s commercial and technology programmes.

Monica holds a Law degree from the University of Ferrara (Italy) and a Master’s in European Law from the University of Liège (Belgium), providing her with a robust legal foundation and a deep understanding of European institutional frameworks.
