Carmen is a legal professional with over 20 years of experience in technology transfer. As Legal Counsel and Coordinator at Erasmus MC’s Technology Transfer Office (TTO), she plays a pivotal role in translating academic research into impactful commercial and societal applications. Her work spans IP strategy, licensing, and public-private partnerships in the life sciences sector, with a growing focus on impact licensing and integrating societal value into IP frameworks.
Her career in technology transfer began as Legal Counsel for ViroNovative, a spin-off of Erasmus MC. She later joined the Office of Industrial Liaison (OIL) at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, before returning to Rotterdam to take up her current role at Erasmus MC TTO.
Carmen holds a Master of Laws (LLM, University of Minnesota, 2000), a second LLM in European and International Comparative Law (Erasmus University, 2010), and is a Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP). She currently serves as President of LES Benelux and is Chair of the LES Pan-European Conference 2025.
