Ivo Emanuilov is an intellectual property lawyer and founder of I/O Legal, an interdisciplinary consultancy practice based in Sofia, Bulgaria where he offers legal and technology-related services to businesses. With degrees in law and computer science, Ivo has deep interdisciplinary knowledge of the interaction between science, technology and law.
He has over a decade of experience as a legal counsel on technology and intellectual property law matters and more than 15 years of professional experience in the ICT sector as a software developer and consultant. He has advised clients in the telecommunications, media and technology sector on open source and technology licensing, data contracts, IP due diligence in M&A deals, and data protection law. He is also experienced in legislative drafting and consulting governments and international organisations on new technologies in electronic commerce, consumer protection, and digital services regulation.
He is an affiliated researcher at the imec – Centre for IT & IP Law at KU Leuven and Head of Policy Lab at GATE Institute in Bulgaria. He is currently pursuing a PhD degree in patent law and computer-implemented inventions at the University of Utrecht under the supervision of Prof Peter Blok. Ivo is a lecturer in intellectual property law and interdisciplinary aspects of AI at the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Sofia.
